How To Manage The Symptoms Of Varicose Veins Using Essential Oils
If you have varicose veins you are no doubt aware of the pain and discomfort they can cause. Varicose veins do tend to run in families although I must say I’m quite fortunate, a number of members from both sides of my family suffer with varicose veins yet it appears I have dodged that bullet.
Other contributing factors can be age, pregnancy, being overweight or in an occupation that requires that you spend long periods on your feet.
So what are Varicose Veins?
Varicose veins are large, swollen looking veins near the surface of the skin; they look twisted and gnarly and are often tender to the touch. They occur most often in the legs and ankles as the one-way valves designed to move the blood towards the heart weaken, leading to a build-up of pressure as blood collects in the affected leg.
Some people don’t display any symptoms at all while others may experience mild to severe symptoms including heaviness, burning, aching, pain and swelling in the feet and ankles, especially after long periods of standing or sitting. More serious symptoms include swelling in the leg, colour changes, thin dry skin, scaling and open sores. I would highly recommend you visit your doctor if you display any symptoms in order to rule out any more severe health problems Varyforte κριτικες.
How To Relieve The Symptoms of Varicose Veins Using Essential Oils
As I mentioned earlier in this article varicose veins do run in my family. My older brother, a very active sportsman while in his youth, had veins in his legs stripped while he was still a teenager and now uses a pharmaceutical cream to relieve the symptoms.
A few months ago I was having a chat with my father and he mentioned that he couldn’t drive for more than five minutes without a serious ache developing in his legs. He also mentioned that his legs ached and throbbed at night, waking him up and forcing him to change positions regularly just relieve the pain.
Having a background in complimentary health I offered to look into something natural that would assist with his symptoms. Now I love essential oils, it’s no secret and I make no apologies. I believe this extremely powerful form of plant medicine has been underestimated and overlooked for far too long. But I’ll save that rant for another article.
From my research and experimentation I found cypress, lavender, lemon (or any other citrus such as Orange, Lime etc), helichrysum, geranium and peppermint to be quite effective.
For the initial formulation I blended 30 drops of Cypress, 20 drops of Lavender, 10 drops of Lemon and 20 drops of Lemongrass with 60ml of fractionated coconut oil. The cost for this formulation was less than $15. The blend was lightly massaged into the affected area morning and night for the first month to get the symptoms under control and then we reduced the dose to just one daily application.
My father reported almost immediate relief from the pain and aching. He was no longer waking up and having to change positions all through the night. In fact he happily reported to me that he often woke up in the morning in the same position is was in when he went to sleep the night before. The other big change is that his legs no longer ache when he drives, no matter how far he has to travel.
We have played with the formulation over the last few months, adding essential oils such as helichrysum and adjusting percentages. However my father reports he still gets the most relief from the initial blend I detailed earlier.
While blending with coconut oil and massaging into the affected areas has proven effective, I am keen to try the formulation in gels and balms to see if it improves the efficacy of the essential oils.
I would like to mention one more thing before I close. Cost and safety. The blend cost less than $15 to produce and lasts between five to eight weeks depending on the frequency of application and the coverage area. This makes it an extremely cost effective alternative to pharmaceutical drugs. As I only use medicinal grade essential oils my results are predictable from blend to blend and also totally safe and free of side effects.
